Three-time award winner Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
Jokic injured himself late in the first half during an accidental collision with team-mate Jones.
His teammate came down on the footwear of the big man, and he immediately collapsed to the ground grabbing his knee.
The veteran player, who is leading the league season in rebounds and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest before suffering the problem.
He will have an scan on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.
"Instantly, he understood something was wrong," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as talented as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, currently, I'm focused just about him personally and the letdown of going through an event of that nature."
