The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.
Vince Gilligan never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the hit series coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception
One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”
“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?
So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… in a way.
“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
