The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
