The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on BBC

Line of Duty cast members
Vicky McClure are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.

However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.

The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
