Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
