Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's side into third place in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in duties at each end of the field

After a drab midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
