Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
