This winter transfer market is always a period of significant rumour and potential major deals. Several high-profile players are being linked with transfers out of their present clubs. This article explores a selection of the top figures who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward available, reports suggest an important move is close. This 25-year-old has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool falling through. With his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, such as City and several continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January departure remains unlikely, particularly given the coach's reliance on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has found starting opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. The Portugal playmaker could be set for a return to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only twenty-eight, while his contract ending in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be willing to take a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under new coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a January departure seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a possible destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

The proven England striker has continued finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of being in the England squad. The Turin club are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
