Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors report that a former doctor has been charged with performing sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.
The Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the forty-five charges include:
- 15 counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
