The award-winning broadcaster and filmmaker, Sir Humphrey Burton, has passed away at 94 years old.
He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

A Career Devoted to the Arts
His journey began in Wiltshire in 1931, leading to a role as a pioneering broadcaster who shared classical music with the public.
His tenure as the BBC's head of music and arts in the sixties and seventies was marked by critically praised work, including the programme The Golden Ring.
1978 saw him introduce the Young Musician of the Year, a competition instrumental in discovering future stars including violinist Nicola Benedetti.

The news was met with widespread tribute, with many citing his formative role for generations of creators.
